Attendance

Regular attendance is vital to a student’s success in school.  A student who is frequently absent will miss instruction, which cannot be made up even though written work may be completed.  The only excused absences are those resulting from illness, medical/dental appointments, or death in the immediate family.  All other absences are considered unexcused.  The school also loses state funding for each unexcused absence.

WHEN A STUDENT IS ABSENT, PARENTS ARE REQUESTED TO CALL THE SCHOOL OFFICE BY 9:00 A.M. ON THE DAY OF THE ABSENCE.  THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO REQUEST HOMEWORK. Eastwood Elementary can be reached at 714-894-7220.

If the absence is not verified by telephone, the student is required to bring a note, signed by a parent, which includes the absence date(s), reason for the absence, name and grade.  It is the parent’s responsibility to clear a child’s absence within 5 days or the absence will be considered unexcused.

Students who need to leave school during the day must be signed out through the office by a parent or adult designated on the emergency card.
